Player evaluation: Joey Votto

First up, first baseman Joey Votto. Last year seemed like on off year for Votto at first glance. His batting average, on base percentage and slugging percentage at .309/.416/.531 were all down from 2010. However 2010 was a monster year for Votto. He could do whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted at the plate.
So this year, the biggest question facing Votto isn’t something he can control. Will he get pitched around like he did last season? Votto’s best chance of not being pitched around is if the Reds can find someone who (cough Jay Bruce) can truly protect him.
Coming off of his second straight All Star game appearance and first Gold Glove award, I fully expect Votto to have another MVP-like season.
