Player evaluation: Brandon Phillips

Moving back to the infield, let’s evaluate Brandon Phillips. Last season was Phillips’ best of his career. His batting numbers were the highest of his career at .300/.353/.457 (his slugging percentage was his second highest ever) and he won his first Silver Slugger award.
Phillips won his third Gold Glove last season and was the most consistent and spectacular infielder day in and day out. I fully expect to see Phillips put up Gold Glove, Silver Slugger and All Star game numbers again this coming season.
The only question surrounding Phillips is that of his contract. I really hope Jocketty can sign Phillips to an extension before the season begins, and I’ve flip flopped as to whether I think it’ll actually get done. The thing that worries me is if Phillips puts up monster numbers again this year, he’ll want even more next offseason.
